Spending time on the road has been a theme throughout my life. Some of my most memorable experiences have been on the road:
getting in the back of the station wagon as a kid to visit family
trips to explore plains and mountains, hunting, fishing, camping, mountain biking
meeting people
food
travel for work (LOTS of this)
A ton of books that I read in my early years, had to do with experiencing life, people, and places. Travel was a central component of this (Into the Wild, The Road....future blog post reminder!). Music and storytelling have also been key to these experiences.
Our oldest daughter was recently telling me about her most memorable moment of 2023. She described the two of us in the car on vacation this last summer in Montana, listening to a specific song, and she was describing the smell of the lodgepole pines in the air.
That was a rich moment for me as a father.
I was thinking about this moment as I read this verse this morning. 'Three things that will last forever: faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love.'
May your travels bring you encounters with family, friends, nature, food that endure. Happy trails!
